Wilfrid "Fritz" Daoust
January 4, 1910 — March 9, 2008
WILFRID GIDEON DAOUST known as "Fritz" died unexpectedly on Sunday, March 9, 2008 in Mount Clemens Regional Medical Center at the age of 98. Mr. Daoust was born January 4, 1910 to the late Joseph and Emma (Gemme) Daoust in Amesbury, MA. On June 24, 1939 he married Mary Catherine Gillis in Detroit. Mrs. Daoust died April 29, 1962. Fritz lived most of his life in Detroit moving to Richmond in the late 1980's. He graduated from St. Joseph Academy in Detroit and attended University of Michigan. He retired as an engineer for Chrysler Corp in 1975. He was a former member of the Knights of Columbus and an overseer of funds for the St. Vincent DePaul society. He enjoyed photography. Wilfrid most enjoyed spending time with his family especially doing things with the grandchildren and later the great-grandchildren. The grandchildren enjoyed "woods walking" with their Grampy. Daily Mass was very important to him even after he could no longer drive at the age of 95. He is survived by his daughter, Virginia (Albert) Hofman of New Haven and his son Robert (Kathleen) Daoust of Capac, grandchildren, Alice Jacobs, Andrew Daoust, Nicole Stromberg, Amanda Hofman-Frethem, Rebecca Barbier and JoAnn Daoust, great-grandchildren, Catherine, Timothy and Orion Jacobs and Mia, Adam and Beth Stromberg. In addition to his wife he was preceded in death by his siblings, Lucien, Henry and Joseph Daoust, Leda Triebert, Evelyn Daoust, Regina Bygrave, Cora Winefordner and Blanche Kennedy. A funeral Mass will be Friday at 10:00am in St. Augustine Catholic Church in Richmond. Reverend Joseph Plawecki will officiate. A private burial will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 6 to 8pm, Thursday from 3 to 8pm in Rewalt Funeral Home, Richmond and Friday from 9:30 to 10am in the church. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be directed to the Michigan Right to Life.
