Virginia May Neuner

Virginia (Gontarek) Neuner, 87, of Richmond, Michigan, passed away peacefully in her sleep, after a prolonged illness, on May 31, 2021 at Henry Ford Macomb Hospital, Michigan. Virginia was born November 11, 1933 in Detroit, Michigan, to the late Josephine and Roman Gontarek. Virginia and Charles were blessed with four children: Jean (Patrick) Finney, Janet (Stephen - deceased) Gottler, Theodore Neuner (deceased) and Dr. Thomas (Laura) Neuner. Virginia and Charlie had 10 grandchildren: Jeana, Stephen, Alex Teddy, Tony, Trisha, Traci, Tommy, Justin and Clinton. She had 15 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Virginia was a 1952 graduate of Algonac High School. Her first job was at Chris-Craft in Algonac, MI. She then was employed at Selfridge Air National Guard Base where she met Charles S. Neuner, whom she soon married. While raising her family in her childhood home on beautiful Lake St. Clair, Virginia worked her entire career at Selfridge ANG Base as a court reporter, secretary to the Base Commander and a Billeting Officer. In her mid-forties she decided to return to college obtaining her Bachelor of Art's degree in Political Science. She was the first person in her family to obtain a secondary degree. After their children were grown, Virginia and Charlie moved to Richmond, MI. She had a love of history and often read books and watched movies to enhance her knowledge. She became very savvy on her computers; especially on-line shopping and social media. She had a love of cats and dogs and had quite a few by her side at all time. Virginia was preceded in death by her brother, Roman Stanley Gontarek, and her son-in-law, Stephen Gottler.
Arrangements will be handled by Rewalt-Peshek Funeral Home, Richmond, MI.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. with a visitation from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass Monday, June 14, 2021 at St. Augustine Catholic Church, 68035 Main St., Richmond, Mi 48062.
