VAN JOHNSON age 62 of Riley Township died Monday, September 7, 2009 in his home after a brief illness. Mr. Johnson was born November 9, 1946 in Detroit to the late Charles and Kathryn (Harder) Johnson. He married Carolyn Powers in Detroit on November 15, 1968. After high school Van proudly served in the United States Navy during the Viet Nam War. He worked as a machinist for Grant Industries in Fraser for thirty years. He enjoyed deer hunting, fishing and watching the history channel on television. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn, children, Tammy Johnson of Detroit, Tina Schroeder of Richmond and Jason Johnson of Detroit, siblings, Clarence and Ellen Johnson of St. Clair Shores, Gerald Johnson of Wisconsin and Lawrence Johnson of Port Huron, sister-in-law, Lorena Johnson of Saginaw, nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Charles on May 5, 2009. A eulogy service will be on Friday at 7:00pm in Rewalt Funeral Home, Richmond. Visiting will be Thursday from 4 to 8pm and Friday from 4 to 7pm. Memorial contributions may be directed for the wishes of the family.
