THERESA MARY STEMMLER age 89 of Lenox Township died Monday, August 8, 2011 in her home after a lengthy illness. Mrs. Stemmler was born January 2, 1922 in Eissen Germany to the late Josef and Maria Disse. She married Frederick Stemmler on November 13, 1943 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Detroit on a "Beautiful Sunny Day!" Theresa came to the United States when she was six years old and became a U.S. Citizen in the 1990's. She was one of the first women in the Detroit area that joined the WAAC during WW II. She was member of St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church in Richmond for many years and served on the Outreach Board, the Ladies Aide and was a secret pal. She was a den mother for the Cub Scouts and enjoyed collecting books, crocheting, gardening and living in the country. She loved her family and country dearly. She was very patriotic! Theresa is survived by her husband, Frederick, children; Frederick Jr. (Janice) of Grosse Pointe, Joan (David) Stadler of Lathrop Village, Julie (John) Artis of Grosse Pointe, John (Janet) of Afton, TN., Carmen (Daniel) Neaton of Lenox, Marga (Patrick) Coughlin of St. Clair and Peter (Tammy) of Rockford, grandchildren; Adam Stemmler, Laura Obringer, Chadd Bender, Kevin & Matthew Smutek, Thomas Riedy, Ried Elenich, Sloane Thomas, Mycah Artis, Carissa, Rachel and Erin Brynes, Matthew Stemmler, Michael and Steven Neaton, Colleen Raezler, Tiffany Gracias, Timothy & Sean Coughlin, Andrew and Nicholas Stemmler and Cameran and Brendan Morse, great-grandchildren; Josephine, Lucy, Kate, Piper, Coley, Garyn, Camden, Mattox and Alexandria. She was preceded in death by her son, Frank Stemmler on April 5, 1955, daughter, Crystal Stemmler Byrnes on November 17, 1999 and granddaughter, Allison Riedy on July 13, 1976. A funeral service will be on Friday, August 12, 2011 at 10:00 am in St. Peter Lutheran Church, Richmond. Pastor Randy Lett will officiate. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Detroit. Visiting will be Wednesday from 5 to 8pm, Thursday from 3 to 8pm in Rewalt Funeral Home, Richmond and Friday from 9:30 to 10:00am in the church. Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Peter Lutheran Church.
