Stephen Smith

STEPHEN JOHN SMITH age 64 a lifelong resident of the Richmond area died Sunday, April 6, 2008 in his home after an extended illness. Mr. Smith was born September 17, 1943 in Detroit to the late Charles "Earl" and Nina (David) Smith. He married Dorene Renshaw in Armada on June 5, 1965. Steve retired as an inspector for the State of Michigan Department of Transportation. He was a member of St. Andrew Evangelical Lutheran Church in Memphis and enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing and going to the casinos. He graduated from Richmond High School in 1961 and was a veteran of the United States Navy. He is survived by his wife, Dorene, daughters and sons-in-law, Deborah and Carl New of Memphis and Shelley and Roger Houghtaling of Davison, his brother, Robert Smith of New Mexico and grandchildren, Ashley, Joshua and Alyssa New of Memphis. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister, Margaret Coughlin in 1983. A funeral service will be on Friday at St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church in Richmond. Reverend Josh Ball will officiate. Burial will be in Richmond Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 3 to 8pm in Rewalt Funeral Home, Richmond.
