Ruth L. Merritt

RUTH LEE MERRITT of Richmond Township passed away at her home following a brief illness on Thursday, November 4, 2010 at the age of 90 years. Mrs. Merritt was born August 2, 1920 in Harrisburg, Illinois to the late Carl and Roxie Elizabeth (Mayes) Heine. She married John Merritt in Detroit on August 14, 1940. Mr. Merritt died March 10, 1984. Mrs. Merritt graduated from Southeastern High School in Detroit in 1938 and later graduated from the nursing program at St. Clair County Community College in Port Huron, MI. She retired from Samaritan Hospital in Detroit in 1996 after twelve years service. She was a member of the Community Baptist Church of Richmond, the Farm Bureau and enjoyed knitting and sewing. She is survived by her children, Patricia (Jerry) Cameron of Presque Isle, Thomas (Elaine) Merritt of Riverdale, CA., Jacquelyn (Larry) Schroeder of Richmond, Elizabeth (Daniel) Klann of Waterloo, IA,, Janis Merritt of Eastpointe, Karl John Merritt of Richmond, Melissa (Scott) Kulman of Richmond and Stephen (Tracy) Merritt of Clinton Twp., son - in-law, Thomas Traub of Richmond, one brother, Thomas Heine of Las Vegas, NV, twenty-nine grandchildren 38 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her daughters, Kathleen Merritt on November 12, 1950 and Miriam Traub on August 8, 2009. A funeral service will be on Saturday, November 6, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. in the Community Baptist Church of Richmond. Reverend Bryan Wise, pastor will officiate. Burial will be in the Christian Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Rochester Hills. Visiting will be Friday from 3 to 9 p.m. in Rewalt Funeral Home, Richmond and Saturday from 9:0 to 10:30 a.m. in the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Community Baptist Church.
