ROBERT MARK FRUIN age 81, a lifelong resident of Richmond died Monday, May 14, 2012 in his home after an extended illness. Mr. Fruin was born September, 1930 in Richmond to Roger and Avis (Lloyd) Fruin. He married Elizabeth Dunn in Ferndale on April 21, 1956. Bob graduated from Richmond High School in 1948 and served with the National Guard from 1948 to 1968 retiring as Captain. He started working at Skinner Buick in 1952 as parts manager and salesman and ultimately buying the business. He was president of the Metro Buick Dealers Association and President of the MADA. Bob was a very community minded person. He served on the Richmond School Board for 15 years, City Council for many years serving as mayor pro-tem. He co-chaired the Richmond Good Old Days for 9 years and the building of the Richmond Public Library. He was a very active fifty year member of the Richmond Rotary Club serving in many official positions. He received the prestigious "Paul Harris Award" and was recently recognized for his fifty years service. Since 1983 Bob has headed the Salvation Army "Kettles" collecting $365,597.50. He was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church in Richmond. He is survived by his wife; Beth, daughter; Leslie (Greg) Pilibosian of Oakland, daughter-in-law; Denise (James) Venia of Marysville, grandchildren; Roger Fruin of Marysville, Chelsey (Luke) Langmesser of Marysville, Corrin Pilibosian and Nicholas Pilibosian both of Oakland and Jamie (Jay) Puffpaff of Sumner. He was preceded in death by his son Robert "Tiger" Fruin on June 12, 1988. A funeral service will be Thursday, May 17th at 10:00am in Rewalt Funeral Home, Richmond. Reverend Thomas Keef, pastor of the First United Methodist Church in Richmond will officiate. Entombment will be in the Richmond Mausoleum. Visiting will be Tuesday from 3 to 8pm, Wednesday from 3 to 8pm and Thursday from 9 to 10am. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be directed to the Richmond Rotary Robert "Tiger" Fruin Scholarship Fund, the Salvation Army or the church.
