Richard L. Harris

RICHARD LEE HARRIS age 82 of Richmond Township died Monday, December 9, 2013 in his home after an extended illness. Mr. Harris was born July 15, 1931 in Gary, Indiana to the late Jacob and Shirley Harris. He graduated from the Detroit Public School System in 1949 and attended Walsh College for three years. He married Josephine Jokubaitis in Detroit on August, 8, 1958. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and worked as a financial director for the State of Michigan for thirty years. He retired in 1992 and spent his winters in Green Valley, AZ where he enjoyed riding horses and was an avid softball player with the BAJA Softball League. He was a member of St Augustine Catholic Church in Richmond and a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 2667 in Richmond. He is survived by his wife, Josephine, children; Timothy and Annie Harris of White Hall, MI and Marie and Eric Ewert of Richmond, Twp. and grandchildren; Nicole Ewert and Jordan and Hope Harris. He was preceded in death by his brother, Joseph Harris. A funeral Mass will be on Monday, December 16, 2013 at 12 noon in St. Augustine Church. Reverend Joseph Horn, pastor of Holy Family Parish will officiate. Visiting will be on Sunday, December 15th from 3 to 8:00pm in Rewalt Funeral Home in Richmond and from 11:30am to 12 noon Monday in the church. There will be a rosary recited by the Knights of Columbus on Sunday at 6:30pm. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be directed to the Wounded Warriors of Michigan or St. Jude Hospital.
