Phyllis Capozzo

PHYLLIS HELEN CAPOZZO 88, a lifelong resident of Richmond died Wednesday, March 12, 2008 in Henry Ford Macomb Hospital after a brief illness. Mrs. Capozzo was born April 5, 1919 in Smith Creek to the late Joseph and Frances Jakubiak. She married Melvin Capozzo in Columbus Twp. on May 4, 1946. Mr. Capozzo died May 6, 1997. Phyllis and her husband owned and operated Capozzo Furniture in Richmond since 1947. The store closed in 2002. She graduated from Memphis High School and was a member of the Richmond Lioness Club and Daughters of Isabella. She enjoyed babysitting her grandchildren, bowling, playing cards and cross stitching. She is survived by her children, Anthony of Richmond, James and Lori of Casco, Carole and Jerry Orr of Missouri and Margaret and Matthew Gaskin of Dexter, nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was anxiously awaiting the arrival of two more great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Kathy Capozzo on November 23, 2002 and siblings, Cass, John, Tony and Mike Jakubiak and Anne Kunka. A funeral Mass will be on Monday, March 17th at 12 noon in St. Augustine Church. Reverend Tony Sulkowski, her nephew will officiate. Burial will be in St. Michaels Cemetery. Visiting will be Sunday from 3 to 8pm in Rewalt Funeral Home, Richmond and from 11:30 to 12pm Monday in the church. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Penrickton Center for blind children or Richmond Catholic Education Foundation for St. Augustine School.
