Margaret "Peg" Oke

MARGARET "PEG" OKE 87 of Brighton, formerly a longtime resident of Richmond died Monday, December 10, 2007 in St. Joseph Hospital in Ann Arbor after an extended illness. Mrs. Oke was born March 6, 1920 in Pittsburg, PA. to the late Roger and Margaret (Stearns) Young. She married Calvin Oke in Richmond on June 12, 1948. Peg graduated from Aurora High School in 1938 and Aurora College in Aurora, IL. in 1942. She retired as a English teacher from New Haven High School after teaching for thirty years. Her career also included service in Richmond, St. Augustine and New Baltimore schools. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Richmond, Richmond Lioness, D.A.R. and former president and member of Alpha Delta Kappa. She served as a board member of the Richmond Public Library for forty-seven years, Scout mother for her sons and enjoyed shopping, entertaining and knitting. She is survived by her husband, Cal, sons and daughters-in-law, Stephen and Bonnie of Lake Orion, David and Michelle of Brighton and Thomas and Shari of Mendon and grandchildren, Erin, Bryan, Amanda, Kristin, Caitlin, Calvin and Lauren Oke. A funeral service will be Friday, December 14, 2007 at 10:00am in Rewalt Funeral Home, Richmond. Reverend Trevor Herm, pastor of First United Methodist church will officiate. Burial will be in Richmond Cemetery. Visiting will be Thursday from 3 to 8pm and Friday from 9 to 10am.
