Kenneth J. Potts died at the age of 66 in Modesto, California. Kenneth was the loving son of Joseph and Nina Potts who preceded him in death. He is survived by his brother, Gary, sister-in-law Eva, niece Stefanie Miller - all California residents, and his close friend and cousin, Richard Weinert and family of Richmond. He is also survived by his former wife, Suzanne Ward of Lafayette, Indiana and numerous cousins and their families descending from the Weeks family lineage.
Ken was a scholar. He graduated from Richmond High School with the class of 1968. He then went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts in History with honors and a teaching certificate from Michigan State University in 1972, before earning a Master of Arts in Library Science from the University of Michigan in 1980. He went on to earn another Master's degree in history from Tennessee's Vanderbilt University in 1995.
Ken worked for nearly 20 years as a Collections Librarian at California State University - Stanislaus County located in Turlock, California. His responsibilities included purchasing books for the university and administering the reference library on campus. He also served as the University Archivist and instructed students on library research. Ken was a prolific researcher who co-authored a book and published many articles and book reviews on academic subjects. He was active participant in University affairs and was recently acknowledged at the Biennial Author Recognition event. He advanced to a level equivalent to a full professor and retired in May of 2015.
Ken enjoyed visiting Yosemite National Park and worked on compiling an annotated bibliography of the Yosemite and Sierra Nevada areas.
A Celebration of Life service will be held to honor him at 4:00 p.m. with a visitation from 3:00 p.m. until the time of service on Saturday, June 3 , 2017at the Rewalt-Peshek Funeral Home, 68655 Stoecker Lane, Richmond 48062.
