John Chester Dickinson, age 76, of Casco Township passed away Thursday, September 14, 2023 peacefully and surrounded by family at Select Specialty Hospital in Mount Clemens, Michigan.  John was born on March 25, 1947 in Detroit, Michigan to the Late Thomas Sr. and Clara Dickinson.  He went to Richmond Public Schools and graduated from Richmond High School in 1965.  He married Dolores Jean Westphal on February 26, 1966 in Richmond, Michigan.  He began working for General Motors in Pontiac on the assembly line making manifolds.  He retired from General Motors in 2008 after 42 years. John is survived by his wife Dolores; his children John (Tamara) Dickinson, Thomas Dickinson, Michael (Tia) Dickinson; grandchildren, Austin, Zachary and Taylor Dickinson; siblings, Kathy Dickinson (Ronn Hendershot), Robert (Colleen) Dickinson, Mariann Cierny, Clara (Terry) Patchel; sister-in-law, Joy (Gary) Satterlee; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents Thomas Edward Sr. and Clara Dickinson; brother Thomas Edward Dickinson Jr.; and brother-in-law Ron Cierny. John wanted to be a farmer and tried for six years growing crops but it proved difficult to break even.  One of his favorite things he loved to do was watch his grandkids play sports.  He enjoyed watching the Detroit Lions and Detroit Tigers and was a University of Michigan fan.  He collected trains and had a three-table layout in the basement that he had built while the boys were growing up.  He loved to travel visiting Disney World in Florida and in 1998 he traveled to Tuscany, Italy and enjoyed the food and sites.  He enjoyed camping with family throughout Michigan with the Rifle River Recreation Area being one of his favorite camping spots.  He also had many pets over the years that he loved.  One July 4th day he heard a scratching at the door and found a scared mother cat with a kitten afraid of the fireworks going off in the neighborhood. The mother cat raised the kitten in a box that she had found in the basement.  He also had a dog that his son Michael had given him that he named Yapper.  It was supposed to be a Golden Labrador Retriever but it turned out to be a Miniature Golden Labrador Retriever that looked more like a Corgi, but he loved it just the same.
