Johanna "Joan" Degroff

JOHANNA MARGARET DeGROFF age 82 of Richmond died Sunday, November 10, 2013 in her home. Mrs. DeGroff was born June 17, 1931 in Detroit to the late Clarence and Effie (Howarton) Freeman. She married Roger DeGroff in Detroit on December 22, 1951. Mr. DeGroff died June 19, 1994. Joan worked as a health care coordinator for Helm, Inc. for several years. Joan graduated from South Eastern High School in 1949 and enjoyed doing ceramics and playing cards. She is survived by her children: David and Deenie DeGroff of Richmond and Sheryl DeGroff-Burg of Richmond, her daughter-in-law; Maggie DeGroff of Rochester, long time companion; Ronald Redd of Romeo, sister; Carrie VanWingerden of Grand Rapids, grandchildren; Brian and Wendy Good and their children Faith and Jordan, Julie and Brian Myer and their children Corey and Carter Aleck, Brooklynn DeGroff, Darryl Shields, Amy and Eric Rathje, Adam and Sara DeGroff and their children Whitney and Vivienne and Megan DeGroff and her children , Eva Constance, Rozalyn Melton and Stella Szalkowski. In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her son Keith DeGroff on August 3, 2004. A funeral service will be on Friday, November 15, 2013 at 10:00 am in the Rewalt Funeral Home in Richmond. Reverend Brian Wise, pastor of the Community Baptist Church in Richmond will officiate. Burial will be in the Romeo Cemetery. Visiting will be Thursday, November 14th from 3 to 8pm and Friday from 9 to 10am.
