Gerald Matthew Kranz

GERALD MATTHEW KRANZ age 67 of Troy passed away Monday, May 31, 2010. He was a courageous warrior battling colon cancer for almost 5 years. He was surrounded by his family and friends that loved him and died peacefully and with dignity. Mr. Kranz was born March 6, 1943 in Detroit. He married Carol Slivensky at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Troy on October 22, 1977. He retired from Ford Motor Co. (Van Dyke) after 41 years (UAW Local 2280). Jerry was a veteran of the US Army 1963 - 1966. He was also a member of Gilda's Club. He was a skilled craftsman and loving father. He is survived by his wife, Carol, sons, Eric and his fiancé, Alicia Dyer of Sterling Heights and Ryan of Royal Oak, his mother, Edna Skelley of Taylor, sisters, Sharon Buckley of Phoenix, AZ and Carol (Carl) Herwig of Taylor. He was preceded in death by his father, Eldred (Albert), step-mother Shirley Kranz, sister Patricia Tynes and his brother, Lawrence (Marilyn) Kranz. A funeral service will be on Thursday, June 3rd at 7:30pm in Rewalt Funeral Home, Richmond. Brother Dion Williams will officiate. Visitation will be Thursday from 3 to 7:30. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the wishes of the family.
