Gene F. Austin

GENE FRANCIS AUSTIN age 81 a lifelong resident of Casco died Monday, December 26, 2011 in his home. Mr. Austin was born November 8, 1930 in Chatham, Ontario, Canada to Frederick and Veva (Barron) Austin. He married Bernadette Morang in Roseville, Mi. on May 25, 1957. Mrs. Austin died November 17, 1999. Gene graduated from St. Augustine High School in 1947 and served as a Marine during the Korean Conflict. He worked as a self employed mechanic for most of his life. He was a member of Our Lady of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Anchorville and enjoyed crosswords puzzles and tinkering on just about anything. His greatest enjoyment was being around the hustle and bustle of his thirteen children and their families. He is survived by his children, Patrick of Casco, Richard (JoAnn) of Casco, Alan of Casco, Bill (Lori) of Emmett, Louis of Memphis, Fred (Jocelyn) of Chesterfield, Theresa of Casco, Mary (William) Fraley of Sandusky, Carol of Richmond, Linda of Chesterfield, Tina (Phil) Ortenburg of Ira, Kay (Darren)Deprez of Richmond and Barb (Scott) Chumbler of St. Clair Shores, siblings, Robert (Joyce) Austin of Algonac, Betty Raska of Lenox, Jack (MaryLou) Austin of AZ., Mary Louise Westrick of Columbus Twp., David (Ruby) Austin of Lenox, Denis (Bonnie) Austin of Chesterfield and Paul Austin of Columbus Twp. and sixteen grandchildren. A funeral Mass will be on Thursday, December 29th at 11:00am in Our Lady of Immaculate Conception. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Anchorville. Visiting will be on Tuesday from 5 to 8pm and Wednesday from 3 to 8pm in Rewalt Funeral Home, Richmond. A rosary will be recited Wednesday at 7pm in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be directed for Mass intentions.
