Frank C. Shepherd

FRANK CARVER SHEPHERD 94 of Memphis passed away on January 10, 2010 in Mount Clemens Regional Medical Center. Mr. Shepherd was born on February 18, 1915 in Pine Bluff, Arkansas to the late Leonard and Minnie (Carver) Shepherd. He married Erma McGinnity in Richmond on December 30, 1950. She died on December 23, 1985. He married Malva Krause in Richmond on December 1, 1990. She died January 9, 1991. Frank came to Michigan in 1935 where he worked for the Ford Motor Company at the Highland Park Plant. In 1946, Frank and brothers Jim and Sam, founded Shepherd Auto Sales in Richmond where he worked until his retirement in 1976. After he retired, Frank worked his farm cutting and baling hay and tending a large vegetable garden and grape vines. An avid horseman, Frank took his horse to Arizona each winter where he trail-rode with friends. During the summer and fall months, he rode or drove his horse and buggy throughout Michigan. Frank is remembered by many as a great story teller and in recent years took to telling loved ones, "Well, I'm glad you got to see me again," upon leaving a gathering. He is survived by his granddaughters, Diane Knack, Debbie (Tony) Detkowski and Denise (Howard) Schwartz, nine great-grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and friends. Frank was pre-deceased by his beloved wife of 35 years, Erma, wife, Malva, long-time companion Norma Jean Netzley, son, Thomas on January 13, 1997, grandson, Dan on February 22, 2002 and siblings, Sam on September 2, 1993, James on August 10, 1998 and Emilia Shepherd Knight on October 12, 1990 A funeral service will be on Wednesday, January 13, 2010 at 11:00am in Rewalt Funeral Home, Richmond. Reverend Trevor Herm, pastor of First United Methodist of Richmond will officiate. Burial will be in Richmond Cemetery. Visiting will be Tuesday from 1 to 4pm and 6 to 8pm and Wednesday from 10 to 11am in Rewalt Funeral Home, Richmond. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Hospice of Michigan, 400 Mack Avenue, Detroit, MI. 48201.
