Elsie Gramzow, 93, of Casco, passed away peacefully in her home Friday, August 25, 2017. Elsie was born June 20, 1924 in Dearborn, Michigan to the late Emil and Olga Foltting. Beloved wife of the late John Gramzow; Caring mother of John (Jackie) Gramzow, Connie (Richard) Cowper, Ruth Gramzow and Mary (Michael) Phifer; Special grandmother of Jeffrey, Amanda, Faye, LeAnne, Aaron, Erica, John and Andrew; Great grandmother of Ashley, Cameron, Blake, Joshua, Jacob, Alexander, Quinten, Creighton, Jesse, Benjamin and Luke. Also, survived by her sisters Julie Brabenec, Mary Jane Foltting, Elizabeth Kole and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her brother Emil Foltting and sisters Olga Grzesak, Ruth Sauer and Ethel Kienitz.
Elsie moved to Richmond as a small child and graduated from Richmond High School in 1941. She was accepted in to the Nurse Cadet Corp. at Grace Hospital School of Nursing in 1945 graduating in September of 1948 as a Registered Nurse. After graduating she married the love of her life, John Gramzow, on September 25, 1948 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Richmond. Their union was blessed with four children. She was employed at St. Clair Community Hospital for twenty years until they closed then employed at Mt. Clemens General Hospital for twenty two years. She retired in 1990 after forty two years in her beloved specialty labor and delivery. .
Elsie enjoyed working in her profession, singing in the St. Peter's choir, volunteering in the ladies aid, baking pies for dinners and helping her husband on the farm when it was needed.
Elsie and John traveled extensively thru the lower forty eight states, Alaska and Canada with travel trailer in tow.
She so loved her life on the farm as she and John raised their children and enjoyed every day they all had together. They were all so blessed to have been a family that loved, worked and worshiped together for so many years.
Elsie lost her beloved husband in 1995 after an illness of four years. He died in the farm house where he was born seventy five years earlier. She will be laid to rest next to her beloved John in Richmond Cemetery.
Visitation will be 3:00-8:00 p.m. Monday, August 28, 2017 at the Rewalt-Peshek Funeral Home, 68655 Stoecker Lane, Richmond, MI 48062. Funeral Service will be 11:00 a.m. with a visitation from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service Tuesday, August 29, 2017 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 67055 Gratiot Ave, Richmond, MI 48062.
