DOROTHY SOPHIE LABENS age 97 of Richmond died Thursday, February 13, 2014 with her loved ones by her side. Mrs. Labens was born May 9, 1916 in Saskatchewan, Canada to the late Norbert and Louise (Wrede) Cordes. She married Paul Labens in Detroit on May 28, 1938. She was an accomplished seamstress, an avid reader and enjoyed bowling, dancing, shooting pool, board games and jigsaw puzzles. Dorothy's greatest joy in life was being around her family and her strong faith in God. She is survived by her daughters; Pauline (Dr. Harold) Papson of Columbus Twp, Ann Miller of Memphis and Denise (William) Haffner of New Baltimore, daughter-in-law Barbara Labens of Oscoda, son-in-law, James Mann of Woodhaven, twenty-two grandchildren, forty-five great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her children; Philip Labens and Celeste Mann, four brothers and four sisters. A funeral Mass will be on Monday, February 17, 2014 at 11:00am in St. Augustine Church. Reverend Philip Ching will officiate. Burial will be in St. Michael Cemetery. Visiting will be on Sunday from 3 to 8pm in Rewalt Funeral Home, Richmond and Monday from 10:30 to 11:00am in the church. A rosary will be recited on Sunday at 6:30pm. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Capuchin Fathers.
