Cheryl Elaine Spens (nee Kniffen) passed away surrounded by family after a courageously fought battle with cancer on Monday, October 28, 2024. Cheryl was born April 24, 1948 in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. She was married to George Spens on April 26, 1969 in Kingsville, Ontario, Canada. Cheryl enjoyed spending time with her whole family. She was a great cheerleader for her grandchildren at any endeavor they undertook. Cheryl loved all types of birds with the Hummingbird being her favorite, gardening especially all kinds of flowers, there are those that just couldn’t survive. Cheryl had a hilarious sense of humor, often telling her family that she loved them and also had in-law love for her son-in-law’s. She also had a love for gnomes. She was a faithful servant of God and enjoyed volunteering her time at many church events. Cheryl is survived by her much loved husband of 55 years George; children Cheri (Randy) Smith, Robin (Gary) Kirkley; grandchildren Carson (Kristen) Smith, Morgan Kirkley, and Nicholas Kirkley; great granddaughter Weslie Smith; mother Doris Bisnett; siblings Ted (Ruby) Kniffen, Roger Kniffen, Nancy Kniffen, Marsha (David) Bowles, Robert Wortley and Stanley Wortley and many nieces and nephews. Cheryl was predeceased by her granddaughter Nicole Smith; stepfather Abby Wortley; brother-in-law Ronald Henricks.
In memory of Cheryl the family ask’s that you wear something yellow to the Funeral Service. If you do not have anything yellow the family will have yellow ribbons available.
Visitation will be from 3:00-8:00 p.m. on Friday, November 1, 2024 at the Rewalt-Peshek Funeral Home, 68655 Stoecker Lane, Richmond, MI 48062. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. with a visitation from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Service on Saturday, November 2, 2024 at St. Peter Lutheran Church, 6745 Palms Rd, Ira Township, MI 48023. Burial will be at St. Peter Lutheran Church Cemetery, Ira Twp.
