Charles Fuerstenau, 89 of Richmond died Wednesday, March 25, 2009 in Medilodge of Richmond after a brief illness. He was born in Richmond Twp. on August 18, 1919 to the late C. Ralph and Marguerite (Ward) Fuerstenau. He married Doris Krause in St. Peters Evangelical Lutheran Church, Richmond on August 17, 1940. He served in the United States Army and was a combat veteran of World War II serving in the European theatre. Mr. Fuerstenau had a plumbing and heating business in Richmond, was a life member of First United Methodist Church, Richmond, a life member of the Richmond Sportsman Club, a charter member of the Richmond VFW, James Coleman Post, a two time past president of the Richmond Rotary, a District Lay Leader for the United Methodist Church, a scout master for twenty years, and a member of the North-South Skirmish Association. He is survived by his wife Doris, son C. Mark (Donnajean) Fuerstenau PhD of Delphos, OH, daughter-in-law Debbie Fuerstenau of Richmond, eight grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son Joel on March 18, 2003, brother Robert Fuerstenau, and great-granddaughter Mackenzie Charles. A memorial service will be Saturday, March 28, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in the First United Methodist Church, Richmond. Visiting will be Saturday from 10 to 11 in the church. Memorial contributions may be directed to Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation, or the First United Methodist Church - Apportionment Fund.
