Charlene Marie Vanmeter
March 16, 1953 — July 15, 2022
Charlene Marie VanMeter, 69, passed away at Blue Water Hospice Home on Friday, July 15, 2022. Charlene was born March 16, 1953 to the late Camiel and Mary Maes. Charlene is survived by her daughter, Michelle (Jeff) Swingle, grandchildren, Simone and Walter, and brother, Norman (Sally) Maes. She is preceded in death by her son Brian VanMeter and brothers, Marvin and Roger Maes. Charlene obtained a degree in nursing as a single mother and pursued that career until retirement from Henry Ford hospital in Detroit. Charlene was raised in the Catholic faith and remained devote throughout her life. She did missionary work in Mexico. She also belonged to the Queen of Peace prayer group and the Detroit Charismatic Renewal church groups. In 2021 Charlene achieved a long time goal of graduating from the Sacred Heart Seminary with Master’s Degree in Theology. Charlene spent years working toward this degree and completed it despite the pandemic and her illness. The most important things in Charlene’s life were her grandchildren that she adored. She enjoyed time spent with her friends and family.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. with a visitation from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass on Thursday, July 21, 2022.
