Carol Jean Capozzo, 95, formerly of Richmond, passed away Sunday, September 11, 2022.  Carol was born on December 25, 1926 to the late John and Helen McDonald.  Carol married William Capozzo, the love of her life, on June 28, 1952.  They shared a life filled with love, laughter, and shenanigans until William’s death on April 24, 2013.  Their love story was one for the books – and if Carol had her way, that book would be a romance novel.  She had started writing a book with all of their adventures and escapades, but unfortunately it was left behind in Florida when they returned home to Richmond, MI.  What we would not give to turn the pages of that book!

The fact that Carol was born on Christmas day is not lost on those who knew her– she was a gift, a gift that continued to give until her last breath. We were very fortunate to have her with us for as long as we did.  Carol was kind-hearted and could not stand to see her nieces, nephews, great-nieces, nor great nephews being disciplined by their parents when they got into trouble – whether they deserved it or not.  To those of us who called her Aunt Carol, we saw her as our “get-out-of-jail” free card.

She enjoyed traveling, reading, and chatting with anyone who would listen. Carol always had a story to share…… and she shared those stories with great humor, animation, and a twinkling eye.  One could never predict what she would say and this was one of her greatest attributes that left all of us smiling and most times chuckling.  She could tell a good joke and deliver one-liners that evoked guttural laughter.  She proclaimed that she did not eat meat because she would not eat anything with a face, wear high heels because she was afraid of heights, nor upset Bill because he might send her to Shady Pines.  She was a kid at heart and loved to entertain others.  She loved to laugh and to make others laugh. Her sense of humor was second to none and will be greatly missed

Carol loved many things. She loved her family, singing, animals, collecting a pension, card playing and gambling.  Family holidays were often celebrated at Carol’s house and at these celebrations she would sit at her piano, play by ear, and make up hilarious songs. These songs would not win a Grammy, but they won the hearts of her nieces and nephews.  Her love of animals included a queenlike dog named Lady and a debonair Beagle named Baron.  Neither actually belonged to Bill and Carol, but they captured their hearts and earned a place in their home. Carol enjoyed a 30-year career with the Chrysler Corporation, but what she enjoyed even more were the 47 years following when she collected her pension.  As for card playing and gambling – she definitely loved a good game of cards and she could not resist a slot machine.  She was our jackpot!

Carol loved life and was always willing to trying new things.  At the age of 83, in 2010, she celebrated the high school graduation of her great-niece by completing a blow-up obstacle course with the kids, including going down the 12-foot slide.  She did not break any bones, but was banned from future obstacle courses.  Another time, she enjoyed a fast-joy ride with her nephew in a T-top corvette.  She exited the car telling us all that she needed clean underwear.  Her sense of wit and competition was displayed when she exchanged t-shirts with inappropriate slogans with another nephew - always looking to see who could top the other.  She was one-of-a-kind and we all loved her antics.

Our world will not be the same without Aunt Carol.  Thanks for always leaving us laughing.  You will be greatly missed!
