CALVIN CLAUDE OKE age 86 of Howell, formerly of Richmond died Tuesday, May 24, 2011 in the Village Manor Senior Housing Center in Howell. Mr. Oke was born November 21, 1924 in Richmond to the late Claude and Fern (Quick) Oke. He married Margaret (Peg) Young in Richmond on June 12, 1948. Mrs. Oke died December 10, 2007. Cal graduated from Richmond High School in 1942 and attended the Port Huron Business College for two years. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army serving in Northern France and Central Europe during World War II. He worked for the United States Postal Service in Richmond for thirty-two years, serving as Post Master for the last twenty-five years. He was a life member of the First United Methodist Church in Richmond and Past President of the Richmond Lions Club where he was the recipient of the prestigious, Melvin Jones Award. He served on the Richmond Good Old Days committee and along with his wife was the Grand Marshall of the parade in 1991. He enjoyed golfing and playing euchre with his Lions Club buddies and friends at the senior center. He is survived by his sons, Stephen and Bonnie of Orion Twp., David and Michelle of CO. and Thomas and Shari of Mendon and grandchildren, Erin, Bryan, Amanda, Kristin, Caitlin, Calvin and Lauren. A funeral service will be on Friday, May 27, 2011 at 10:00am in Rewalt Funeral Home, Richmond. Reverend Alan DeGraw of Howell will officiate. Burial will be in the Richmond Cemetery under the auspices of the United States Army Honor Guard. Memorial contributions are suggested for the Richmond Lions Club for the Penrickton Center for blind children.
