Betty Jean Thornton

Betty Jean Thornton, 76 of Richmond died Friday, January 14, 2011 in Medilodge of Richmond after an extended illness. She was born September 13, 1934 in Elberton, Georgia to the late Jack and Sadie (Saxon) Caldwell. She married James Thornton on September 20, 1956 in Elberton, Georgia. Betty was a member of the First United Church of Christ in Richmond and enjoyed reading, quilting, and spending time with her family. She is survived by her children Dana and Brian Maclean of Richmond, Ralph and Leann Thornton of Linden, and Tom and Jennifer Russell of Warren, brothers Thomas and Barbara Caldwell of Florida and Donald and Sherri Caldwell of Elberton, Georgia, sister Lucy Gillespie of Columbia, South Carolina, eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband James and son Thomas Thornton. A memorial service will be Monday at 6:30 pm in Rewalt Funeral Home, Richmond. Rev. Randy Lett of St. Peters Evangelical Lutheran Church, Richmond will officiate. Visitation will be Monday from 5 to 6:30 pm in the funeral home.
